Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What is AMP?
AMP (Asheville Music Professionals) is a searchable directory of the people who make music happen in and around Asheville, NC — musicians, bands, and music businesses. It's how our community finds and connects with each other.
Who can join?
Anyone working in music locally — performers, engineers, teachers, techs, bookers, and the businesses that serve them. You can list yourself as an Individual, a Band, or a Business.
How much does it cost?
AMP is currently free while we grow the community. There's a membership plan for each profile type, and if pricing ever changes we'll always be clear and up front about it.
How long does it take to get listed?
Building your profile takes just a few minutes (and it saves as you go). After you finish, an AMP admin gives it a quick review, and once approved it appears in the directory. We'll email you the moment it's live.
Do I need to finish my profile in one sitting?
Not at all. Your progress saves automatically as you build, so you can step away and pick up right where you left off whenever you like.
The Directory
How do I find a specific kind of musician?
Use the directory filters. You can narrow by membership type, availability, skills (what someone does), and styles (the genres they play) — and combine as many as you need.
Can I search by genre?
Yes — filter by style in the directory, or open any style to see every member who plays it.
How do I contact someone I find?
Members choose what contact details to share on their profile. Use those to reach out directly — AMP is all about real connections.
Why can't I see a profile I know exists?
A profile only appears in the directory once it's been approved and is active. If it's brand new or has been taken down, it won't show publicly yet.
Opportunities
What kinds of opportunities are posted?
All sorts — gigs, auditions, sub calls, session work, and other music opportunities shared by the community on the Opportunities page.
Can anyone post an opportunity?
Posting is a member feature. If you're a member, you can share your own from your dashboard — see Posting an opportunity.
Membership & Billing
How are payments handled?
Securely, through Stripe. AMP never sees or stores your card details.
Can I get a refund?
If something isn't right with your membership, contact us and we'll make it right.
Signing In
How do I sign in?
Go to the sign-in page and enter your email, then press Continue. You'll be asked for your password next — or you can choose Email me a sign-in link and skip the password entirely.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
On the sign-in page, enter your email, press Continue, then choose Email me a sign-in link. We'll email you a secure one-time link that signs you straight in — no password needed.
To then set a new password, Settings asks for your current one first (that's what keeps your account safe). If it's truly gone, contact support once you're signed in and we'll help you set a fresh one.
What is a magic link?
A secure, single-use link we email you that signs you in without a password. It's good for 15 minutes and works once. See Signing in with a magic link.
Why does my sign-in link ask me to click a button?
Because some email systems quietly open links to scan them for safety. That extra Sign in button makes sure a scanner can't use up your one-time link before you do — it's only spent when a real person presses it.
My sign-in link expired or didn't work. Now what?
Just request another from the sign-in page — there's no limit. Links last 15 minutes and work once, and asking for a new one retires the old one, so always use the most recent email in your inbox.
I didn't get my sign-in email. Where is it?
Check your spam or promotions folder, and double-check you entered the address your account actually uses. For your privacy we show the same message whether or not an address has an account, so a typo looks just like success. Still nothing? Contact us.
Why is my account locked?
After 5 failed password attempts we lock an account for an hour to stop anyone guessing at it. You don't have to wait — request a sign-in link and you can get in right away.
I lost my phone and can't get my two-factor code.
Use one of the backup codes you saved when you turned on two-factor — enter it on the code screen just like a normal code. Each works once. Out of codes? Contact support and we'll verify you and help.
Do I have to use a password?
Nope. If you'd rather, you can sign in with a magic link every time and never type a password again.
How do I sign out?
Open the menu under your name in the top navigation and choose Log Out. Worth doing whenever you're on a shared or public computer.
