Launched at the dawn of 2017, Transmission Publicity is a music PR, consulting and A&R firm owned and operated solely by Spencer Scanlon, a veteran music publicist since 2006. He cut his teeth early on at the revered music PR firm Girlie Action, before moving on to become the Publicity Manager at Republic Records and Casablanca Records (Universal Music Group). After becoming disillusioned by the major label world, he dove headfirst back into the indie PR world to become the Director of Publicity at Crash Avenue. Prior, he put in time doing freelance work and internships at respected companies such as Pitchfork, Central Park SummerStage, The Village Voice and Rykodisc (Frank Zappa’s label).

Scanlon’s clients, both past and present, are as diverse as his experience, having worked on press campaigns for Morrissey (who didn’t fire him), The Cure, Santigold, The Rapture, DFA Records, Mogwai, Shit Robot, The Weeknd, Kavinsky, The Lonely Island, Stars, Sebadoh and countless others. He also played a vital role in launching the careers of artists like Christopher Paul Stelling, Holy Ghost!, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Pretty Lights, The Last Bison, Wolkoff, ACES, Darwin Deez, Quiet Hollers, The Fluids, Ganser, Black Grapefruit and countless others.

Transmission was formed out of a passion for seeking out new talent and developing artists from the ground up, which is where our strengths lie. While we gravitate more toward indie rock, psych, garage rock and post-punk, we also work on projects all over the spectrum - from alt-pop and synth-pop, to folk and alt-country and (mostly) everything in-between. Whether you need help with an upcoming single, video, EP, album, compilation, tour, or even A&R work pitching your music to record labels, please feel free to reach out and we’ll see if it’s a good match!

Check out some recent press highlights from Transmission Publicity clients below to give you an idea of the kind of artists we work with, and what we're capable of:

Ganser - "PSY OPS"

Watch Ganser's video for "PSY OPS," which the New York Times covered, saying "Ganser uses ingredients that hark back to the era of Gang of Four, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Raincoats and the Fall. “Psy Ops” has gnashing, dissonant, trebly guitar riffs over pounding drum syncopations, with Nadia Garofalo wedging telegraphic little bursts of lyrics — “now pay attention/your anger/fear/has got me” — wedged tightly into the groove. The song dissolves into echo-laden loops of voices, before the band returns to land its final jabs."

Quiet Hollers - "Medicine"

Louisville’s revered indie post-punk band Quiet Hollers announced their most recent album Amen Breaks with Consequence of Sound, who says "Quiet Hollers may sound indebted to alternative country, but the group is imbued with a punk rock soul."

The Fluids - "Creatures"

The New York Times picked up The Fluids' first single ever, saying the song "...vibrates with the giddy energy of the city’s early-2000s rock scene — the sound is tight, the vibe is loose, the singer’s accent is adopted."

GERMANS - "Little Red"

A Valley Son - "East Flatbush Sunset"

Wide Open Country recently premiered A Valley Son's single "East Flatbush Sunset" for us, saying "Its Southern Gothic lyrics lie somewhere in between classic country storytelling and Bruce Springsteen’s workman-like rock anthems. Musically, there’s trace elements of folk-rock, gospel, soul and doo-wop."

ACES - "I'm Already Gone"

Noisey premiered ACES' cinematic video for "I'm Already Gone," saying "...the Brooklyn duo will transport you to a whole different dimension" and likened ACES to "...a pure hit of pop Xanax - ever so soothing and easily procured sans prescription."

Ian Randall Thornton - "See You Through"

Billboard premiered "See You Through," the final single on Ian Randall Thornton's latest album, noting the song's "...beautiful vocal and instrumental layering, solemn and thoughtful lyrics, and a rousing chorus. Lake Jons (Finland) - "Call Me"

Finnish lo-fi psych band Lake Jons took the US by storm in early 2018, coming in at #2 on Atwood Magazine's 2018 Artists to Watch list: http://atwoodmagazine.com/atw18-artists-to-watch-2018/

"Lake Jons’ music is a wonderful blend of indie folk and rock, with some ambient, ethereal electronic influence thrown in for good measure. It’s provocative and inviting, warm and vibrant and full of life." - Atwood Magazine

"...an effective, atmospheric piece of indie-pop." - WNYC

"Designed for some cosmic destiny, stopgap commanders of the space odyssey, Finnish outfit Lake Jons breathe new life into the alternative folk hybrid, calling upon the whistling wind and dirt underneath their boots." - B-Sides & Badlands

Lenny Zenith - "Sunday Dress"

The pioneering trans punk rocker Lenny Zenith stepped into the spotlight in 2018 with the release of his critically-acclaimed solo debut 'What If The Sun.' His almost-unbelievable-but-awesomely-true story of his career in rock & roll spans back 30+ years. He transitioned while in junior high school in California in the 70’s, before subsequently returning home to New Orleans and fronting the punk band RZA. In the early 80’s, Zenith opened for artists like U2, The Replacements, Iggy Pop, XTC, Gun Club, X, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many, many more. When he was fronting the acclaimed noise-pop band Jenifer Convertible in New York in the 90's, James Murphy (pre-LCD Soundsystem!) recorded three of their songs at the original Plantain Studios, which were released as the bands' Car Song 7” (bandcamp). Wharton Tiers (of Sonic Youth/Dinosaur Jr. production fame) also produced their full-length, Wanna Drag?

"...over 30 years after his quiet transition, he has crafted a legacy in rock and roll as one of the genre’s first true transgender rock stars." - OUT Magazine

"Punk pioneer Lenny Zenith returns with a grinding, riff-heavy record that keeps the emphasis on bruising melodies." - Bandcamp

"...crackles with the energy of glam, the spirit of punk and carries a little more lyrical heft than your average two-minute tune." - PopMatters
