A. Raymond Johnson / Purple Fluorite
I released three albums of instrumental electronic & ambient music under the name Purple Fluorite, with new work coming out in early 2019. My style is influenced by hip-hop, jazz, downtempo electronic, R&B and classical piano.
I studied piano for 7 years, taught myself acoustic guitar, and stage managed a community theater production of "Hello, Dolly!" and co-directed an original youth musical, all before the age of 18. During my college years I worked on several radio shows at WNUR 89.3 in Chicago, then from 2001-2012 I stayed in the city and worked as a DJ, live sound engineer, and karaoke host - if you saw a drag or burlesque show in Chicago during that time, then you danced to songs played by DJ BoyWonder. I even starred as a DJ in the play "Fa$hion", directed by Coya Paz for the Halcyon Theater, running music and sound cues from the stage (while also delivering a few lines).
I currently love being a bedroom producer, all the music production tools of my youth that were once too expensive for me are now on available on my laptop. I love creating music with other artists and helping develop their sounds in the studio. I'm retired from live-DJing, but still love playing keyboard, synths & percussion on stage, my backing vocals are ok too (10 years of choir experience).
