I've been playing drums for as long as I can remember. I've always felt driven to become better at it, and so it has taken me many places. I started my professional career at age 17 playing with local bands, and then went on to join up with a familiar nationally touring outfit from Asheville, NC known as Yo Mamas Big Fat Booty Band. During this time I was fortunate- along with some great players and friends to form what is known affectionately as AVL Tuesday Night Funk Jam and became the house drummer for its infant years, hosting kit for several years before handing over the reigns to the ever growing wealth of talented players in our town. After I discovered what it was like to have a traveling "band Family" I wanted to start my own. I settled down, got married and had a little boy. Musical things didn't end for me there, as I continued to play with my father (bass) and my younger brother (guitar, keys, etc.) forming several bands over the next decade including backing up Asheville's American Idol winner Caleb Johnson for some hair-bending 80's rock and metal tunes for a few years. Additionally I've started a few other "improvisational jam" events here and there, as well as install house sound and begin live music production, (booking, promoting, live sound and lighting) for a few breweries, Including and, most importantly- Boojum Brewing Co. As a Waynesville resident, putting Haywood County on the map for live music and regional/national acts has been a lasting interest for me. It has also been important to me to foster an environment/venue that is good for local players to come and do what they do, while networking with others, and growing our musical/artistic community. I teach, and love passing along skills to children and adults alike that will always bring them enjoyment and self worth and satisfaction, and so on. My next endeavor is to open a music/art education facility in Waynesville, focused on at-risk kids, behavioral and mental therapy patients, as well as Veterans, to provide an outlet for expression and foster creativity, while helping to develop their talents, and solidify healthy recreational habits that can be shared with our community.
