Frail Jonny

When your world is stripped away, what comes next feels like an afterlife.   

Jonny’s is a tale of rebirth. In February 2020 Jonny was preparing to get married and enter the world of 9-to-5. He was going to have one of those normal lives, you know the kind. But things took an unexpected turn. By the end of March 2020 Jonny was single and in lockdown. The world he thought he knew, the world he was moving toward—a partner, a career, a home, a future—disappeared.  

That was when Jonny entered his afterlife. In the quiet hours of lockdown/breakup he returned to what he had abandoned years ago, a bedrock of melody that had followed him since childhood. Whenever he listened to this melody it led him to the strange dark place we catch glimpses of in that moment of falling asleep. He found hints of this place in films and novels and works of philosophy, in landscapes and sun and shadow. Now he makes it his task to dredge these depths, and bring up the glimmers in sound.  

Based in the mountains of Asheville NC, Jonny makes indie music that embodies his afterlife. With diverse chamber pop arrangements, his songs mix effortless, inevitable melodies with scorching lyrics that cut to the heart of what's most often left unsaid. His music has been described as Pheobe Bridgers meets Sufjan Stevens in Joanna Newsom's old apartment.
