Billy Cardine

Acoustic, Electric, and Eclectic Slide Guitars

Billy Cardine is a slide guitar pioneer, taking the dobro with him into somewhat unchartered territories and helping make them feel like home.  Bluegrass Unlimited says “Billy Cardine proves to be one of the new generation of resonator guitar players who truly understands the possibilities of the instrument.” His patchwork of diverse musical influences contributes to his chameleonesque ability to fit in with whatever collaboration he joins on the stage, or in the studio.   Billy’s distinct voice on all things slide has lead him to collaborations with Led Zeppelin's, John Paul Jones, world renowned, Edgar Meyer in the Porous Borders of Music, and alongside Jerry Douglas (and many ResoSummit instructors) on Tut Taylor’s Tribute album, Southern Filibuster. Amongst Billy’s own recording projects, his “Six String Swing” ushered the Dobro into the world of Gypsy Jazz. His mentor Mike Auldridge said it best when describing the album, “The swing music Billy Cardine is tackling on the resophonic guitar on this project is some of my all time favorite music, and in his hands, the music itself takes on an all new meaning to me. It all sounds so natural to the resophonic guitar that one is almost forgiven for not realizing that this is pretty much impossible to pull off so convincingly.”

As an engineer and producer, Billy’s distinctive voice shines through any instrument he plays, song that he composes, and album that he produces. His works have won national and international awards and recognition including Indie Acoustic Music Project’s Roots Album of the Year, Chicago Tribune’s Best Bluegrass records of the year and an Apple iPod Playlist Hot Pick.  His memorable compositions and emotive playing have been featured on The History Channel's "Our Generation", BBC World's "Destination Music", and PBS' "RoadTrip Nation" alongside literally tens of his friend’s boutique-y no budget documentaries.

Billy has been a featured artist at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the Ryman Auditorium, Bonnaroo, Merlefest and Rockygrass to name a few, as well as at venues and festivals throughout the US, in all fifty states.  Internationally, he has toured in Europe, Canada, Japan and will return for another 3 week tour thru India at the end of this month.

As an educator, Cardine is known for his gentle yet thorough approach to shining light on musical mysteries, creating lots of “ahaaa” moments for his students.  He has taught throughout the country, including: at Resosummit, the Rockygrass Academy, Targhee, CBA, the University of North Carolina Asheville, as well as internationally, throughout Europe, Canada, and India.

You can catch Billy live with North Carolina’s Acoustic Syndicate, Colorado’s Rapidgrass, The Billy Sea, North of Too Far Downs, in India with The Bluegrass Journeymen, and with his newest project, Lovers Leap, which is gearing up for an EP release in March of 2019 and recently signed with MidWood Entertainment.

Billy ‘the farmer’ is in year three of building a permaculture food forest on his land outside of Asheville NC. He loves being a Dad, loves his dogs, and loves being here in Nashville with the awesome ResoSummit family.
