Derek Poteat

I don't live in Asheville, but I have been a part of the Asheville music scene since 1997, playing my first shows at Vincent's Ear and other venues. From there, I have done lots of other things over the years, with bands and solo, and I have played with many great musicians. From 2003 - 2010 I was a founding member and bass player for Ahleuchatistas and recorded five albums with that project.  After leaving Ahleuchatistas, I have been doing a lot of solo bass and organ music, which you can check out on Bandcamp. All of the early Ahleuchatistas music is on the internet and there are plenty of videos on YouTube. 

I am open to lots of styles of music, but I do want to be challenged. I especially like to play in odd time signatures and I enjoy coming up with bass lines/melodies that are not the expected. My style is not traditional in any way and neither is my approach.

I have plenty of ideas for music, but I am also open to writing with other people. In fact, I enjoy bouncing ideas off of someone the most. I become inspired when I play with great musicians.
