An Ya
Voice, Viola, Interdisciplinary Practice
An Ya is a voice and strings teacher, musician, and interdisciplinary artist working and living in Asheville, NC. An active freelance musician and singer, the Memphis-native has been performing for over twenty years. She performs regularly with the Asheville Symphony and Brevard Philharmonic. She maintains a private studio where she teaches voice, violin, and viola. Her interdisciplinary work spans issues of racism, androcracy, ecological community, and animal liberation. Since 2009, she has facilitated conversations, given talks at conferences, contributed to anthologies, and written articles on these entanglements. Her recent projects include Black Eco-Griot and Animal Futures Project. She holds degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of Vermont. She lives with her husband, two dogs, and cat.
